Scarborough Spring Cup: all'Oliver's Mount inizia la stagione 2012 del Road Racing

Secondo tradizione all'Oliver's Mount di Scarborough scatta la stagione del Road Racing, con la "Spring Cup" in programma nella giornata di domenica 15 aprile intitolata a Ian Watson, specialista del Road Racing tra gli anni '90 e 2000, tragicamente scomparso in un incidente stradale nei pressi di Dishforth il 27 novembre 2004. Come "prima" del calendario Road Racing e del Duke Road Race Rankings, classifica a punti delle principali corse su strada, la "Ian Watson Spring Cup National Road Races" si articolerà nella sola giornata di domenica 15 aprile con le prime prove libere alle 9:00 in punto a precedere le qualifiche ufficiali (dalle 10:15) e le prime gare in programma dalle 12:30 locali per le classi Ultra Lightweight, Northern Lightweight, SuperTwins, MiniTwins, 400, Sidecar, 600 Supersport ed il "main event", la Ian Watson Spring Cup, aperta a tutte le cilindrate "Solo" a cominciare dalle Superbike. Imbatutto dal 2008 a questa parte (e vincitore anche nel 2003), senza dubbio Ryan Farquhar è il grande favorito sulla carta in sella alle Kawasaki del proprio team KMR: Ninja ZX-10R Superbike, ZX-6R Supersport, ER6 SupeTwin e KX450 per la classe 400. Alla ricerca del quinto trionfo consecutivo e sesto in carriera alla "Spring Cup", Farquhar dovrà vedersela, oltre che con il giovane compagno di squadra Wayne Hamilton, anche con Michael Dunlop, all'esordio stagionale e da pilota McAdoo Racing, formazione al 30° anniversario di presenza sui campi di gara che appronterà tre differenti moto (Honda CBR 1000RR Superbike di Hunts Motorcycles, Yamaha YZF R6 Supersport e Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10R Superstock) per il TT 2012. Inoltre "Mickey-D" dovrebbe proprio a Scarborough esordire tra i Sidecar in attesa di confermare ufficialmente la propria partecipazione all'Isola di Man. Se si propone un bel confronto tra Farquhar e Dunlop anche per la graduatoria del Duke Road Race Rankings, all'Oliver's Mount non mancheranno volti noti come William Dunlop (attesissimo nelle classi "Lightweight"), Chris Palmer ed una leggenda come Ian Lougher, vincitore alla "Spring Cup" nel 2006 su Honda, al via con le Kawasaki del proprio team ILR Kawasaki (Ian Lougher Racing). Se Farquhar e Lougher risultano nell'albo d'oro dell'evento, la famiglia Dunlop non vince addirittura dal 1984 con Joey: una ragione d'interesse in più per la "Ian Watson Spring Cup" 2012, l'evento ideale per aprire la stagione delle corse su strada.
