Aprilia wants to dethrone Ducati at Aragon, Bezzecchi reveals: "I had a setback"

The rider from Romagna is eager to race at Motorland, where his physical condition will be better than at Silverstone: good enough to beat Marquez?

After two weeks off, MotoGP is ready to get back in action at Aragon, on a track that historically favors Marc Marquez and not Aprilia. The Noale team’s only podium at Motorland was claimed by Aleix Espargaro, third in the 2022 race. In the 2025 edition Marco Bezzecchi (qualified twentieth) finished eighth in both the sprint race and the main race, while Jorge Martin was out injured and was replaced by test rider Lorenzo Savadori (0 points).

In general, the circuit located in Alcaniz hasn’t been particularly kind to Bezzecchi. Aside from the comeback second place he scored in Moto3 in 2018, he hasn’t returned to the podium there. His best MotoGP result is sixth in 2024, when he was still racing with the VR46 team’s Ducati. Martin has done better, winning in Moto3 in 2018 and then reaching the podium on two other occasions (2020 in Moto2 and 2024 in MotoGP).

Bezzecchi returned at Silverstone after getting injured at the Sachsenring, and he did well, taking two “heroic” third places while far from peak physical condition. He should be fitter in the upcoming Grand Prix and more ready to fight his rivals: "I can’t wait to go to Aragón, it’ll definitely be a demanding weekend because after Silverstone I had a small physical setback caused by the exertion of the weekend. In any case, we expected that, which is why we’re trying to make the most of these days we have to get fully back on track. Either way, I’m really happy to go to Aragón, it’s a track I like a lot and I’m really eager to get back on the bike."

In England he made a major physical effort and then paid for it a bit, but at Aragon his left collarbone and left knee will certainly be better and will allow him to ride with less discomfort. It remains to be seen how competitive he and Aprilia will be on a track where the last four races have been won by Ducati bikes. The RS-GP26 is a top-tier machine and we expect better results than in the recent past from the Noale factory, which, besides the factory pairing of Bezzecchi-Martin, can also count on the Trackhouse satellite duo Ogura-Fernandez, super competitive across multiple GPs. Beating Ducati would carry major significance.

Aprilia has three riders in the top three positions of the overall standings, with Fernandez sixth, 56 points behind leader Martin. An unprecedented situation for the Veneto-based manufacturer, which hopes to leave Aragon with a smile. Ducati has very different plans, and it will be interesting to see the battle between the two Italian brands this MotoGP weekend.
