Herlings dominates Arnhem—what an MXGP show! Triumph dreams in MX2

In Arnhem there’s a single MXGP master, while in MX2 the Triumph duo keeps shining. Race report and standings.

Yesterday the win in the qualifying race, today triumph in Race 1 (with a small scare at the end), holeshot and an unrivaled victory in Race 2. Jeffrey Herlings puts on the show his fans expected and extends his MXGP overall lead again—he’s truly unstoppable in his triumphant march... Let’s also remember it was Glenn Coldenhoff’s last home GP: the former World Champion put his stamp on it with a superb 5th place in his final Dutch GP!

In MX2, a 1-2 is enough for Camden McLellan to take the overall ahead of poleman Liam Everts (Race 2 winner) and Guillem Farres, who keeps the red plate. The title fight is still red hot—the next three rounds will be just as hard-fought! Here’s how it went in the Netherlands.

Noteworthy: Chase Sexton, AMA SX and MX champion, whose 2026 season ended early due to injury. Rumors quickly swirled about a potential move to the MX World Championship—highly unlikely for now, but who knows... Also present was Xavi Artigas, Kawasaki rider in the World Supersport Championship, who stopped by Arnhem to get a close look at Motocross. Recall that Kawasaki’s MX2 spearhead, Mathis Valin, is sidelined until season’s end due to back and wrist injuries suffered in the big crash at the Portuguese GP... But Artigas’ attention is mostly for fellow Spaniard Guillem Farres, the MX2 points leader and Triumph’s great hope.

Jeffrey Herlings’ huge first-lap scare in Race 1 remains one of the moments of the opener. De Wolf pounced right away, while Vialle nailed a great start to the moto, immediately trying to break away. But the trio soon bunches up: first the Husqvarna rookie attacks, another home hero enjoying the race lead to the roars of the jubilant crowd, which never stops backing its favorites. The ovation grows when Herlings reels in his compatriot for an all-Dutch head-to-head that fires up the fans, until the Honda ace finds “his” gear. An incredible twist is risked on the last lap, when the Honda cuts out! Somehow Herlings gets it going again immediately and still takes the win with margin over Kay De Wolf and Tim Gajser.

On to Race 2, this time Jeffrey Herlings wastes no time: a blistering launch for the holeshot and he’s gone right away. With a superb Coldenhoff briefly second, but in the top 5 all GP long! Up front it seems already settled... But something changes in the final minutes: the stellar rookie Kay De Wolf sees a massive opportunity and sets off after his countryman. Two laps from the end, however, his hopes are dashed in a crash... Further back, Gajser is in trouble—unclear if due to a fall or a technical issue—and loses a few spots. Up front, Herlings has no more issues: it’s absolute domination at his home GP! Overall podium for Kay De Wolf and Tom Vialle—here’s the picture with three GPs to go in the 2026 World Championship.

The Triumph duo and Sacha Coenen (who took the holeshot) splitting them: that’s your podium trio at the end of Race 1 in Arnhem. Great launch from the KTM standard-bearer with the British brand’s pair in pursuit, until a late incident for Coenen paves the way for the now-looming, attack-ready McLellan—but no need... Triumph for the South African over the Belgian on KTM and the championship leader, with a fun twist: Camden McLellan and 3rd-place Guillem Farres both clocked a 1:48.353, the exact same fastest lap of the race!

Race 2 starts with a winning launch for Laengenfelder, but here come Everts, Farres, Coenen... And an early big near-crash for the red-plate holder, avoided by a hair. While Everts flies, sparks fly for 2nd: Coenen, with a small mistake, McLellan (charging from 6th) and Farres ignite a fiery battle! On the record also a second scare for Farres, who nearly hits the barriers at the chicane... But he manages to lock down 3rd over Coenen. Up front McLellan has Everts in his sights, but #26 won’t budge: it’s a moto win! The Triumph rival, however, takes the GP overall, with Farres third overall. With three GPs to go, here’s the situation in the championship standings.
