Jerez test, day 1 standings: Yamaha on top, Petrucci ahead of Oliveira

The first day of Superbike testing at Jerez is in the books, with some highly anticipated debuts: here are the lap times and standings.

Before heading off on vacation, several Superbike and Supersport teams decided to wrap up 2025 on track. A test has been organized at Jerez de la Frontera for today and tomorrow, an opportunity to prepare for the 2026 season. Two important days especially for teams welcoming new riders, who need to get familiar with all the changes, starting with the bikes.

Today’s best time was set by Andrea Locatelli in 1'38"641. The Italian rider from the Pata Maxus Yamaha team completed over 70 laps. From this Jerez test he began working with his new crew chief Giulio Nava, coming off many years alongside Alvaro Bautista.

In the time sheets, second place is listed as Test Bike 1 #87: this is not Remy Gardner (out with a right shoulder injury); that lap on the Yamaha R1 was set by Xavi Vierge, Locatelli’s new teammate, who also appears in fourth place. In third is Michael van der Mark, now a BMW test rider, who completed nearly 80 laps. His experience is important for developing the M 1000 RR and for helping newcomers Danilo Petrucci and Miguel Oliveira.

The rider from Umbria (who will not be speaking today on BMW’s instructions) ended the day sixth, behind Bimota test rider Xavi Fores (with the Lowes-Bassani duo due on track tomorrow). Meanwhile, the Portuguese rider is eighth, behind the GYTR GRT Yamaha R1 ridden by Stefano Manzi, the 2025 Supersport world champion promoted to Superbike with Filippo Conti’s team. A lot of work was done on the ergonomics of Petrucci and Oliveira’s M 1000 RRs to give them bikes they can feel comfortable on.

Rounding out the top 10 are the Hondas of two more rookies, Jake Dixon and Somkiat Chantra. Both logged plenty of laps, essential to get to know the CBR1000RR-R Fireblade SP as well as possible.
