Marc Marquez wraps up the celebration: "I've lost three years of my career

The 2025 MotoGP season was not only a sporting lesson for Alex and Marc Marquez, but also a personal one. Valuing family, the city where they grew up, and the bond between brothers. On Saturday, November 22, Cervera welcomed the two champions with the slogan: "Back 2 Back, the Marquez brothers make history." Now it’s already time to turn the page and think about next year.

The city of Cervera woke to an icy chill, with a temperature of 2°C and a biting wind. Alex and Marc Marquez warmed up the atmosphere together with thousands of people and visitors who came specifically for "Marquez Day." This time Marc wasn’t alone in the celebratory parade; by his side was his younger brother, now MotoGP vice world champion. "Today we consider ourselves the world capital of sport," declared Mayor Jan Pomés during the reception at the Paeria (Lleida City Hall).

The crowd erupted when the two riders stepped out onto the balcony. There were fans from every corner of the globe: Spain, Europe, and even Australia. "I want to emphasize that during these four years spent in the dark, you supported me so that today we could all celebrate together," said Marc Marquez. "I don’t like to use this word because it sounds nostalgic, but it was a historic year. And it’s unlikely to happen again, even though we’ll try next year. We took it for granted from the first shared podium in Thailand. But it’s unreal; it had never happened before."

Rivalry didn’t pull them apart; on the contrary, it brought them closer. The on-track challenge could have had negative consequences for their family relationship, but it didn’t. It’s not just a historic result, but an extraordinary, unusual, sui generis situation. For Marc it’s also the official end of a nightmare that began in 2020, when he went from winning everything with record-breaking runs to struggling just to get on track. "Maybe I lost three years of my professional career, but I gained six in my personal life, in maturity, and with the same passion because you don’t lose your DNA," continued the new MotoGP class champion.

Now the focus shifts forward: there’s a chance to reach ten world titles in 2026. His first rival will be Alex Marquez! "Alex can be champion next year," said Marc. "He’s the only one who managed to take the lead from me this season. He’s capable of anything, but people are impatient; you’re only as good as your last race. Alex is gaining momentum, and once he does, you never know where he’ll stop... I learn from him how to manage situations, which is his strength."
