American Superbike Mid Ohio Qualifiche 1: Hayes leader

Ci sono due novità importanti in griglia (l’esordio ufficiale della KTM, la nuova Erik Buell Racing 1190RS), ma al comando ci sono sempre i soliti due protagonisti al termine delle prime qualifiche ufficiali dell’American Superbike sul tracciato di Mid Ohio in Lexington. Josh Hayes, campione in carica con la Yamaha R1 del Graves Motorsports, ha spiccato la pole position provvisoria in 1’25″639 lasciando a soli 74 millesimi la Suzuki Yoshimura di Blake Young.

I due, separati da un solo punto nella classifica di campionato, hanno già fatto il vuoto alle loro spalle: i fratelli Hayden, Roger (Jordan Suzuki) e Tommy (Yoshimura Suzuki) pagano rispettivamente 4 e 5 decimi avvicinati anche dalle BMW degli esperti Steve Rapp (San Diego BMW) e Larry Pegram (Foremost Insurance Pegram Racing).

A sorpresa non va oltre la settima posizione Martin Cardenas, solitamente molto veloce in prova e vincitore lo scorso anno a Mid Ohio tra le Daytona SportBike, lasciandosi alle spalle Ben Bostrom ottavo con la Suzuki GSX-R 1000 del Michael Jordan Motorsports, reduce dal 2° posto conseguito poche settimane or sono al Barber Motorsports Park.

Passando alle novità, la KTM RC8R ufficiale del team HMC Racing all’esordio con Chris Fillmore (leader dell’Harley Davidson XR1200 Trophy nonchè ex bi-campione AMA Supermoto) spicca il decimo tempo assoluto, davanti anche alla nuova Erik Buell Racing 1190RS condotta da Geoff May in 13° posizione. Ancora in configurazione “Superstock”, la nuova sportiva (verrebbe da dire “prototipo”) di casa EBR paga 2″8 dalla vetta.
