Martin returns to racing for the final MotoGP event in Valencia, but he will have to serve a penalty: the announcement came moments ago.
After missing several Grands Prix due to the injury sustained in the sprint race at Motegi,
Jorge Martin is ready to get back on track. He will take part in the Valencia Grand Prix, the final act of the 2025 MotoGP calendar. A long-awaited comeback that will also be accompanied by a penalty.
MotoGP Valencia 2025: double long lap penalty for Jorge Martin
In Japan, he caused the crash that involved him together with his teammate
Marco Bezzecchi, therefore the FIM MotoGP Stewards Panel decided to hand him a double long lap penalty for irresponsible riding that created a dangerous situation for multiple riders and resulted in a crash. As this is his first infringement of the season, Martin will have to serve a double long lap during the race in Valencia.
At Motegi he was injured and did not have the chance to speak with Simon Crafar, head of the MotoGP Stewards Panel. The discussion took place this morning at the Ricardo Tormo circuit and led to that decision. The Aprilia rider then passed the fitness check and can race in Valencia as normal. There were few doubts, given he had already been cleared on Monday in Barcelona. Today Dr. Angel Charte, MotoGP’s medical director, confirmed that his condition is suitable to ride the RS-GP25.
It should be remembered that the regulations state that, in the event of non-participation or failure to complete the race due to injury, illness, or another subsequent and unrelated issue (not sustained during the incident that led to the sanction), the penalty is considered served. If the rider does not participate in the next event’s race for any reason specifically related to the sanctioned incident, the penalty will be served at the next Championship event in which the rider takes part.
