Tourist Trophy: proseguono le prove con Anstey e Rutter al top a 128 mph

Duello tra i Dunlop nella 600

Scongiurato il pericolo-pioggia, i protagonisti del Tourist Trophy hanno affrontato l’ennesima serata di prove giovedì 31 maggio in vista delle prime gare in programma da questo sabato (nello specifico Superbike e Sidecar-1) all’Isola di Man. La pioggia della mattinata non ha comprensibilmente consentito di raggiungere i primati del “Mountain Course” con alcuni settori (Glen Helen soprattutto) che presentavano alcune “chiazze” di bagnato, obbligando di conseguenza i migliori road racers del pianeta ad evitar rischi inutili per sè e per le proprie moto a disposizione. Non è un caso che, Bruce Anstey e Michael Rutter a parte, tutti hanno percorso soltanto 1 giro con le Superbike, favorendo così l’avanzata del “Kiwi” al comando della classifica a 128.815 mph con Padgett’s Honda, seguito a 128.072 mph da “The Blade” su MSS Kawasaki, concentratosi anche tra le SuperTwins con la Kawasaki ER6. Con la coppia di testa l’unica sopra il muro delle 128 mph, nell’unico giro con partenza da fermo Guy Martin ha spiccato il terzo crono a 126.939 mph, non distanti Michael Dunlop (Honda Fireblade di Hunts Motorcycles/McAdoo), Gary Johnson (Padgett’s Honda) e Ian Hutchinson, in crescita viaggiando sopra le 126 mph con la R1 ex-ufficiale del team Swan Yamaha. Dopo aver infranto per la tredicesima volta in carriera il muro delle 130 mph mercoledì, John McGuinness nell’unico giro effettuato con la Fireblade Superbike di Honda TT Legends ha spiccato il 7° crono a 125.984 mph con Donald, Hillier (capoclassifica della Superstock) e Cummins a completare la top-10. Si conferma tra i primi 15 Stefano Bonetti, buon 14esimo con la propria Kawasaki Superstock a 122.787 mph, mentre Alessio Corradi risale fino alla 21esima posizione con la BMW S1000RR del 2R Racing Team di Ravenna in 120.075 mph, mentre tra i “Newcomers” (esordienti all’IOMTT) è confronto aperto tra Karl “Bomber” Harris (pluri-campione British Supersport e protagonista del BSB) su SMT Honda ed il talentuoso Jamie Hamilton, “pupillo” di Ryan Farquhar nonchè vincitore lo scorso anno tra le SuperTwins all’Ulster Grand Prix. A proposito degli esordienti all’Isola di Man, il tedesco Stefan Holz è incappato in una rovinosa caduta a Sarah’s Cottage rimediando la frattura del braccio destro: per lui il sogno TT 2012 si conclude in anticipo, obbligando la direzione gara all’esposizione della bandiera rossa. William, ai comandi della Honda CBR 600RR del Wilson Craig Racing, viaggia con un ottimo 18’02″58 a 125.467 mph di media lasciando a poco meno di 10″ Michael che ha definitivamente scelto di correre tra le 600cc con la “fidata” Yamaha YZF R6 (sempre vestita dei colori McAdoo), la stessa moto con la quale vinse nel 2009 per la prima volta al TT, ma che l’ha lasciato “per strada” a Ramsey per un problema al radiatore. I due Dunlop hanno staccato i due vincitori dello scorso anno: Bruce Anstey (123.649 mph) e Gary Johnson (123.638 mph), seguiti da tre attesi protagonisti come Guy Martin (TAS Suzuki), John McGuinness (Padgett’s Honda) e Cameron Donald (Honda Wilson Craig Racing). Fuori dalla top-10 Conor Cummins e Ian Hutchinson, avvicinati dal nostro Stefano Bonetti che con la propria Honda CBR 600RR chiude in 13esima posizione a 117.381 mph con la concreta chance di chiudere tra i primi 10 nelle due gare in programma tra lunedì 4 e mercoledì 6 giugno. Vero e proprio “exploit” dell’australiano David Johnson, quarto assoluto con la Kawasaki del PR Racing/Quattro Plant, ma anche e soprattutto del nostro Stefano Bonetti che si attesta a 122.787 mph (comprensibilmente distante dal 124 mph di mercoledì) in 9° posizione assoluta a “contatto” con il vincitore della Scarborough Spring Cup Steve Mercer (7°) e dal pilota di Honda TT Legends Simon Andrews. Risale fino in 15esima posizione Alessio Corradi, regolarmente in sella alla BMW S1000RR del 2R Racing Team di Ravenna, mentre John McGuinness con la Padgett’s Honda ha percorso soltanto 1 giro del Mountain a 114.533 mph (insomma, non era proprio serata per il “tempone”). Ian Lougher, recordman recordman ex-aequo con Joey Dunlop al Billown Circuit con 42 successi (più 10 affermazioni al Tourist Trophy, 9 alla North West 200, 20 all’Ulster Grand Prix/Dundrod 150), ha spiccato il best time della serata in 20’01.77 a 113.023 mph con la Kawasaki ER6 preparata dal Stewart Smith Racing, seguito da James Hillier (Kawasaki ER6 di Pr1mo Bournemouth in 112.952 mph) e da Michael Rutter, 3° in queste prove e alla NW200 due settimane or sono in gara. Non ha girato invece il preannunciato favorito per la vittoria Ryan Farquhar, lasciando a “The Blade” e al proprio giovane compagno di squadra (nonchè “newcomer”) Jamie Hamilton il compito di difendere in questa sessione di prove i colori di KMR Kawasaki. Sono tornati in azione dopo il brutto crash di lunedì i fratelli Ben e Tom Birchall, quinti con il LCR Honda 600 del Cofain Racing diretto da Klauss Klaffenbock, ritiratosi dall’attività agonistica al termine della stagione 2011. Proseguono invece i problemi al nuovo Sidecar motorizzato Kawasaki 600cc per il vincitore di Gara 2 del 2011 John Holden, fermato a “Kirk Michael” al suo primo giro del Mountain. Peggio è andata a Dean Lindley/Leon Fitzpatrick, fuori gioco per un incidente nei pressi di Douglas con il secondo in Ospedale a Noble con un forte dolore alla schiena e qualche frattura non meglio specificata. Se la sono cavati senza alcuna conseguenze invece Scott Lawrie (esordiente quest’anno) ed il suo passeggero James Neave, coinvolti in un crash al rilevamento di Ballaugh.
