Diogo Moreira writes an incredible story: first Brazilian World Champion in Grand Prix motorcycle racing! Problems and retirement for Gonzalez... Report and standings from the Valencia GP.
History is made, signed by Diogo Moreira, the 2025
Moto2 World Champion. The best Brazilian in the world championship until now, Alex Barros, had only reached 4th place in the world standings, but now we have a new star in his brilliant heir. Literally, since it was the 55-year-old former rider from São Paulo who moved him from motocross and launched him into road racing. A choice that proved spot-on over the years, as shown by the moment of glory sealed at the Valencia GP. A standing ovation for the Brazilian, future LCR Honda standard-bearer in MotoGP, who brings Italtrans another great joy for the first time since the world title celebration with Enea Bastianini in 2020. It was an unlucky race instead for Manuel Gonzalez, forced into an early retirement... But there’s applause for him too at the end of a great Moto2 season. The race triumph goes to
Izan Guevara, the first Pramac/Boscoscuro victory in the class, fending off the fierce Daniel Holgado, with Ivan Ortola also on the podium. Here’s how the Valencia GP went.
Moto2 Race
Diogo Moreira 9th, Manuel Gonzalez 5th, 24 points between them: Moreira only needs to finish in the top 14, Gonzalez has to win and hope his rival finishes 15th or out of the points. That’s how the grand finale kicks off at Valencia: lights out with Guevara immediately ahead of poleman Holgado, Gonzalez and Moreira hold their starting positions. Further back, Munoz and Baltus are immediately down, while Escrig receives a double Long Lap for a jump start. The same penalty for Canet too, seemingly for causing the Munoz-Baltus incident; later on, the crashes of Garcia and Eric Fernandez are also recorded, while from the outset Gonzalez’s task appears impossible, stuck in fifth and then dropping further back in the second half of the GP, seemingly the victim of some obvious problem. In the end, even Diogo Moreira gets past him...
Gonzalez gives in, Moreira makes history
Gonzalez keeps slowing down, forced into an inglorious surrender in this final GP of the 2025 season. From hot favorite to saying goodbye to dreams of glory... A very different story for Moreira, who didn’t push at all—and didn’t need to, given his sizeable buffer. He sits in 9th, then drops to P11, taking no risks, eyes on the big prize that seals the incredible story of the young man from São Paulo. Like Alex Barros, the original benchmark, but with continual historic peaks that, since Moto3, have led Moreira to rewrite every result set by Brazil’s best to date. The race is won by Izan Guevara after a tight head-to-head with Daniel Holgado, with Ivan Ortola on the podium, meaning two Boscoscuro bikes in the spotlight in this season finale.
