Terzo giorno di prove del Tourist Trophy 2014 conclusosi anzitempo per il maltempo che ha fatto capolino poco dopo le 19:30 di mercoledì 28 maggio all’Isola di Man. In una serata di attività con gli attesi protagonisti del TT 2014 in grado di completare non oltre 2 giri a testa (e nella maggior parte dei casi soltanto una tornata del “Mountain Course”), al comando della graduatoria dei tempi figura Michael Dunlop in sella alla BMW S1000RR ufficiale schierata dal sodalizio BMW Motorrad UK/Hawk Racing. Autore di un miglior crono in 17’35″470 a 128.690 mph di media, “Micky D” si pone tra i favoriti per la vittoria sabato della gara riservata alla classe Superbike e, soprattutto, venerdì 6 giugno per il Senior TT. Trovatosi a meraviglia con la BMW S1000RR ufficiale condotta in trionfo alla North West 200, il figlio e nipote d’arte è riuscito ad ottenere questo crono nonostante la presenza della pioggia in qualche tratto del “Mountain Course” e poco prima dell’incidente del “Newcomer” (esordiente al TT) Laurent Hoffmann, portacolori del Penz13 Racing Team di Rico Penzkofer, caduto a “Barregarrow” e successivamente trasportato all’Ospedale di Noble per una sospetta frattura ad una gamba. Dopo questo incidente (risoltosi fortunatamente senza gravi conseguenze), l’intensificarsi della pioggia battente ha di fatto obbligato il “Clerk of the Course” a sospendere le attività congelando la classifica con Dunlop al top davanti alle Suzuki GSX-R 1000 del team TAS di Guy Martin (128.052 mph) e William Dunlop (127.911 mph) con, a seguire, Michael Rutter (su Bathams BMW in 126.719 mph), Dean Harrison (Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10R preparata da MSS Performance ed iscritta dal RC Express Racing, 126.521 mph), Dan Stewart (SMT Honda, 125.845 mph) e i due alfieri Milwaukee Yamaha Ian Hutchinson (125.365 mph) e Joshua Brookes (125.297 mph) davanti alla Honda ufficiale condotta da John McGuinness. Ottima prestazione per il nostro Stefano Bonetti, autore di un crono di 18’51″826 a 120.008 mph di media che vale il 7° posto assoluto tra le Superstock.
