Neither Moreira nor Gonzalez: super Holgado takes the final pole of the year. And the contenders for the Moto2 crown... Report and standings.
If anyone expected to see Gonzalez and Moreira vying for the final pole, they were disappointed. Neither of them was ever in the fight for pole position, not even for a moment. Is it already a game of tactics? We’ll find out tomorrow, when it will be decided which of the two will be the 2025 Moto2 champion. For now, pole position belongs to the rampant Daniel Holgado, his fourth pole of his rookie year, ahead of Izan Guevara (the only Boscoscuro up top) and Senna Agius, while the two title rivals... Here’s how it went at the Circuit Ricardo Tormo.

Moto2 Qualifying, Q1

The real surprise is championship leader Diogo Moreira, who missed the top 14 for direct Q2 yesterday and is therefore out on track in this session! Not the only one though: Canet, Alonso, Arenas, Lopez, Salac... Let’s recall the absences of Adrian Huertas, in hospital awaiting surgery (fractures of both radial bones in yesterday’s big crash) and Ayumu Sasaki, who suffered a fractured ankle. The expected surge comes from the Moto2 points leader, and it doesn’t take long. But he’s not the only one wanting the top spot: Canet shows up too, but it’s especially Arenas (bidding farewell before his Supersport challenge) who shatters the record! In the end it’s the Italjet Gresini rider who advances with the best time, followed by the Fantic standard-bearer, Moreira and finally Salac.

Who takes the final pole?

We’ve got both world title rivals in Q2; it’s the most important qualifying session for both Manuel Gonzalez and Diogo Moreira. It’s an immediate dogfight, and not just between them: Salac, Baltus, Guevara, Munoz and others join the fray. In the end, neither the Intact GP Spaniard nor the Italtrans Brazilian will be in contention for the final pole of the year—enter the newly crowned Rookie of the Year: a fourth pole of the season for Daniel Holgado, once again ahead of everyone. Izan Guevara brings a modest smile to the Boscoscuro and Pramac camps, with third place going to Senna Agius.
