Fermin Aldeguer had to grit his teeth both in Brazil and in Texas. The Spanish talent suffered a fracture of the shaft of his left femur during training in January, missing the MotoGP winter tests and the season-opening Grand Prix. For the Gresini rider, the road should now get easier, thanks also to the help of Cristiano Ronaldo.
Aldeguer in recovery phase
The young rider from Murcia was still lacking pace and physical strength at the US GP. In qualifying he secured 9th on the grid; in the Sprint he finished 10th, about 13 seconds behind the winner; in the Grand Prix he crossed the line 11th, 21.1 seconds adrift of
Marco Bezzecchi. Considering the long enforced break, it’s a respectable result, even if he’s not at all satisfied. “
It was a difficult race for me,” Aldeguer admitted after the COTA weekend. He hasn’t yet regained full strength after the injury, and his physical condition is the first real obstacle to fighting at the front.
The long break in the MotoGP calendar brings him some relief. “We have three weeks to rest and understand what happened over the last two race weekends. But I’m happy to have managed to finish this tough race on such a demanding circuit. However, I’m still not very satisfied... The changes of direction, but also the braking zones, caused me some difficulties.” The Gresini team rider goes into detail. “At the end of the straight we reach 345 km/h, and there it was difficult for me to slow the bike properly. When you brake, using your legs is very important.”
New partnership with CR7
Big news is coming for Fermin Aldeguer. First, from next year he will join Valentino Rossi’s VR46 team with a factory bike. The other positive note concerns his entry into AVA, Advanced Recovery for Athletes, a company run by Cristiano Ronaldo. It is a private organization that helps athletes around the world prevent injuries, speed up their rehabilitation, or extend and enhance their sporting careers. The Portuguese striker is a shining example, as he will play in his sixth World Cup in the USA at the age of 41!
AVA includes numerous athletes from the Portuguese Liga and the Saudi league, as well as athletes from other disciplines: from boxing to tennis, from handball to padel. CR7 took a particular interest in Aldeguer’s case, as he deals with the left femur injury—going so far as to name him AVA’s exclusive ambassador in MotoGP. In this way, the Spanish rider will be able to benefit from everything the company offers to fine-tune his physical preparation ahead of Jerez and the upcoming rounds of the MotoGP World Championship.
