Bezzecchi competitive in MotoGP practice at Valencia, but watch out for Acosta: here’s what the Aprilia rider said.
Just 53 thousandths separated
Marco Bezzecchi and leader Pedro Acosta at the end of the Friday pre-qualifying at Ricardo Tormo. The Aprilia rider confirmed his competitiveness and hopes to be a frontrunner this weekend in Valencia, where the final grand prix of the 2025 MotoGP World Championship takes place.
MotoGP Valencia, Practice: Bezzecchi competitive
On Friday afternoon Bezzecchi also crashed, but there were no particular consequences and he said he was happy after practice: "It was a small slide - he told Sky Sport MotoGP - I made a small mistake at Turn 4. I let off the brake a bit too early in that somewhat cursed corner. Anyway, it was a good day, from morning to afternoon we made a big improvement. The guys did an amazing job, I managed to do the second time attack with the crashed bike, I really want to thank them a lot".
There was a moment when he tucked in behind Acosta to study him, and he admitted it wasn’t by chance: "I did it on purpose - explains the rider from Romagna - because he was a bit behind me, so I decided to stay behind him as well. Unfortunately I didn’t see much, because then I slipped. He rides very well, clean. He’s really strong on corner entry, he really pushes the entries and has great confidence with the front. Especially in the first part of the track he managed to carry a lot of speed into the corner and then didn’t need to be too aggressive on the throttle in the traction phase. That’s something I envied a bit, I hope to get myself sorted in that direction too".
Aprilia, silver and bronze medals
The KTM rider looks very strong in Valencia; to counter him, it will be crucial not to make mistakes. Bezzecchi knows how important it is to start from the front two rows on a circuit like Ricardo Tormo: "Let’s hope to have a good qualifying, it’s super important here. Gaps in Valencia are always very tight, it’ll be tough, but we’ll try to give it our all".
Aprilia has already mathematically secured second place in the MotoGP constructors’ championship. The Rimini native is just a few points away from clinching third in the riders’ championship; he has a 35-point lead over Pecco Bagnaia and can wrap it up today in the sprint race.
