In the 2025 season, Jorge Martin was supposed to defend his MotoGP title. After the forced farewell to Ducati, the Madrid-born rider faced a new challenge on the Aprilia. Unfortunately, fate was against him and, due to several injuries, he stayed home for most of the Championship. Dorna has released the documentary “Jorge Martin, from Heaven to Hell.” Friends and family speak, including his girlfriend Maria Monfort.

The crash at Sepang

In February everything seemed to be going smoothly. The adaptation to the Noale machine promised great things. Excitement and trust alternated with the strong desire to get back on the bike after conquering the MotoGP throne. Returning to the track flaunting the number 1 earned with merit and sweat, with a satellite team. But Sepang was the first warning sign. A dangerous highside at Turn 2 during official testing sent the Martinator straight to the medical center with fractures to his right hand and left foot. “Jorge called me; he was already in the hospital,” says his girlfriend. “We were talking, he started crying, and so did I... a drama.”

The training fall

It was only the beginning of a dramatic domino effect. In a desperate attempt to make the opening race in Thailand, Jorge pushed himself to the limit, training on supermoto in Menàrguens. The result was devastating: another crash and four more fractures on the left side of his body. “He spent two weeks recovering full time. He devoted all his energy to returning as soon as possible. The day before boarding the plane, he went to train and he crashed,” Maria explains.
A tough blow to swallow for the MotoGP champion. Watching the start of the Championship from home was a bitter pill. “It was very hard. Psychologically, I think it was tougher than the first one. I mean, not being able to do the pre-season tests is already difficult, but not being able to start the season was even worse.”

The Qatar nightmare

But the real tragedy came in April, at the Qatar Grand Prix. It was the long-awaited return, but Losail became the stage for one of the most harrowing crashes in recent years. After a fall on lap 14 and the unintended impact with Di Giannantonio’s Ducati, Martín suffered a pneumothorax and fractures to eleven ribs. Maria Monfort’s words about that moment in the hospital are chilling. “I walked into the room, Jorge saw me and started crying and crying. He kept saying, ‘I don’t know what will happen, but I love you, I love you, I love you,’ and I started crying a lot too.
Jorge Martin was afraid he wouldn’t make it. “He was in a lot of pain, he couldn’t stop crying. He was very scared. Then I told myself that the first time I entered the room, Jorge was sure he was going to die.” Dark days for the rider and those close to him; his professional future was uncertain, his return to MotoGP in serious doubt. It seemed as if bad luck had set upon him.

Season finale

On his return at Motegi, one last setback: a broken collarbone after running into Bezzecchi, forcing him to skip the Asian tour. Finally, the return in Valencia, to put an end to a 2025 season to forget. “The feeling Jorge had at the end of that race was, more or less, the same as when he became champion. He was reborn,” concluded his better half.
