Ducati is planning its MotoGP future, particularly for the 2027–2028 biennium. It’s not only about building a completely new prototype, as required by the regulations, but also about choosing its two standard-bearers for the factory team. And that’s not all. Many names are on the shortlist, but only two seats are available.

Aldeguer’s rise

One thing is certain: Gigi Dall’Igna and the Borgo Panigale leadership want to ensure Fermin Aldeguer stays. In his rookie MotoGP season he collected solid results and his first win. The data available to Ducati’s engineers make a strong case for preserving the 2005-born Spanish rider. After a somewhat troubled start to the 2025 season, the Gresini rookie improved exponentially. The victory at Mandalika was the highlight of his debut season, to which you must add two podiums, 35 laps led, and eighth place in the final standings.
He is certainly one of the candidates for the factory team; it remains to be seen in place of whom between Marc Marquez and Pecco Bagnaia. “When a rookie manages to win a race, it definitely means something,” noted Luigi Dall’Igna in a Dorna documentary. “He is the future of our brand in MotoGP.” Fermin Aldeguer wants to become a factory Ducati rider sooner or later.

A seat in the factory team

With his victory in the Indonesian Grand Prix, he became the second-youngest MotoGP winner after Marc Marquez. Now Aldeguer aims to secure a seat in the Ducati factory team when the market opens in 2027. However, it remains to be seen whether a spot will open up. Marc Marquez is in excellent form, and it’s unlikely the men in red would want to give up his performances. The biggest question mark is Francesco Bagnaia, who showed too many ups and downs in 2025.
Competition is heating up, even within the Gresini garage, with Alex Marquez champing at the bit for better conditions. Pedro Acosta is also on the wishlist, but it remains to be seen whether he will be satisfied with a factory-spec Desmosedici in Valentino Rossi’s VR46 team. Many names are in the mix, and someone will have to make sacrifices… or look elsewhere. For Gigi Dall’Igna, the coming months will be difficult and decisive.
