Ducati has been MotoGP world champion for four consecutive seasons. In 2025 it triumphed thanks to the stellar performances of Marc Marquez, in his first year in factory red. 2026 looks equally fruitful, even though the competition has closed the gap. But in Borgo Panigale they also have to reckon with the market and finance, to find new resources to invest in the short- and medium-term future.

The new off-road front

Ducati is engaged on three fronts: MotoGP, SBK and Off-Road. CEO Claudio Domenicali explained how each discipline must be profitable. "Our involvement in Off-Road racing is still in its early stages," he told Speedweek.com. "Despite the start-up phase, it’s also true that we ensure our financial investment here is proportional to the impact we achieve with our commitment."

Income and expenses

The Ducati boss doesn’t divulge figures; everything remains top secret. Just like the riders’ contracts... "The data is confidential, but we have a control process for each project, in which the respective series partners also play a role. Of course, MotoGP is by far the most expensive discipline, but when we carry out the evaluation, a different picture emerges. Because we can simultaneously generate significantly higher revenue. This comes from the promoter (Dorna Sports, ed.), from customer teams and, of course, from our partners. In this way, MotoGP is by no means more expensive for us than other disciplines."

Technology, research and development

It’s not all a given, because MotoGP requires major investment in research and development, and continuous innovation. Beyond results, which are hugely important. "I think we are well positioned," Claudio Domenicali emphasized. "Also because the MotoGP, Superbike and Offroad disciplines are not separate but closely connected. There is a lively exchange here, and expansion has not only increased the knowledge and technology of Ducati Corse and therefore of Ducati as a whole. The overall know-how has grown, and that increases value, including for our partners."
