Could Jorge Lorenzo join Vinales at KTM? Talk points to 2026, while it’s a wasted morning in Valencia... The situation.
No big news is coming from the
Valencia track: only Jack Miller, with the new V4, and Maverick Vinales did a single mini-outing each, but without logging any valid laps. The reason is the track being wet for a long time and then patchy due to the rain that fell overnight at the Circuit Ricardo Tormo. Everyone is stopped, including high-profile rookies
Toprak Razgatlioglu and Diogo Moreira, as well as new test rider Nicolò Bulega and surprise package Celestino Vietti, but there is news regarding Jorge Lorenzo, who could return to the MotoGP paddock alongside Vinales: the two are keeping it vague, but it seems negotiations are underway!
Jorge Lorenzo, role at KTM?
Unfortunately, no testing this morning in Valencia, so there was time to talk about other things. The person in question, interviewed by motogp.com, kept vague on the subject. “It’s a possibility, we still have to finalize things” was the response from the former rider and multiple MotoGP champion. Specifically, it’s about a role alongside “a Spanish rider,” who appears to be Maverick Vinales, in a sort of coaching capacity as early as next season. Rider #12 was also asked about it and highlighted Lorenzo’s experience and unquestionable abilities. He knows 2026 will be an important year for him and is already working hard to perform at his best. And having someone of Lorenzo’s caliber certainly wouldn’t hurt... “We’re talking to see if we can reach a collaboration, to work especially on the details, on how to set up the race weekend.” We await further developments.
Almost everyone parked
A wet and patchy track due to the torrential rain that fell overnight. Everyone stayed in the garage except Jack Miller, whom we see on the new Yamaha M1 V4 in an official test session (he had already debuted it at Misano in private testing), although he didn’t complete the lap. Afterwards there was a mini-outing for Maverick Vinales as well, but he didn’t complete his lap either. The Valencia MotoGP test morning is literally wasted; with just under an hour remaining they gave up and the red flag came out. The sun is shining but track conditions keep everyone stopped; we’ll have to wait longer to see the true debuts of all the names of interest, as well as to get the first official benchmarks for the much-discussed V4.
