Who doesn't dream of taking part at least once in a MotoGP race with the Ducati that has just won the World Title?
Michele Pirro made it happen this year. Okay, for him it was “simply” work, but there was certainly no shortage of emotion.
Michele Pirro recounts
his experience in MotoGP, and when it comes to Pecco Bagnaia he has very clear ideas, as he tells Corsedimoto.
"The races in Australia and Malaysia are certainly not the easiest, and on top of that, replacing Marc Marquez was quite a burden. But it was great to see from the inside the evolution of the riders and the teams. We had a tremendous season. As we saw, as long as Marc Marquez was on track, he dominated."
But Pecco Bagnaia was missing. How do you explain it?
"Unfortunately, Bagnaia was inconsistent. The goal for 2026 is to make him as competitive and fast as he was on a few occasions this year. He still showed he hasn't forgotten how to ride a motorcycle. We're athletes, and sometimes you get years, seasons that are a bit complicated. I'm convinced that by working hard, having a good winter, and solid tests, he can regain his competitiveness."
Are the rivals closing the gap?
"It's clear that this year the others have closed in, as is only right, because the whole set of regulations and various measures were made to penalize Ducati a bit and bring the others closer. However, the top two bikes in the overall standings are Ducati. Beyond the Marquez brothers, Di Giannantonio, Bagnaia himself, Morbidelli... they all had good races. I absolutely don’t consider the last season disappointing for Ducati: it basically dominated everything. Let’s also remember that in Superbike Bulega fought for the World title right up to the last race. I think it was an incredible year. Plus, Stirpe won the CIV in Production Bike: it was a great season. Next year we’ll try to be ready and fight as we always have."
