The Marquez brothers dominated the 2025 MotoGP season. While Marc returned to the spotlight after difficult years, clinching his ninth world title, for Alex it was the most successful season since he debuted in the premier class. After the November 22 celebration in Cervera, it’s already time to look ahead to the next championship. Both will have a factory Ducati Desmosedici at their disposal, on par with Bagnaia and “Diggia.”
The ‘family’ success
For
Marc Marquez, winning the title after his long injury is incredibly important. He wanted to prove to himself and to the world that he could return to the top. But what matters more for the 32-year-old Ducati rider: winning the ninth world title or taking first and second place together with his brother? “
What a tough question! It’s complicated; they’re very different situations or emotions,” MM93 reflected in an interview with sponsor Estrella Galicia. “
I’ll stick with what I achieved with my brother. Because it’s something that has never happened before in the history of motorcycle racing and, in my opinion, is unlikely to happen again.”
The injury in Indonesia prevented him from finishing the MotoGP season on track. But it didn’t deny him the joy of a world-title renaissance after four very dark years. In 2024 he found his smile again with the Gresini team; in 2025, the path to triumph. “When you’re at the top and you fall, you don’t hit the ground, you fall even lower,” he said in an interview with SPORT.
Alex’s support
During the times he was away from the paddock,
Alex Marquez played a crucial role. “
Directly and indirectly, he’s the person who helped me the most.” And when he started training again, his brother became the physical benchmark. “
Normally the older one is always a bit ahead,”
Marc Marquez recounted. “
But after so long… he was ahead on the bike, in physical preparation, in the work at the gym.” In short, Alex was the engine of his rebuild.
The Cervera superstar acknowledges that one of the hardest lessons was learning to be “selfish.” Hence the decision to leave Honda, where he had won so much and had built a family. “It was an extremely difficult decision,” admits the MotoGP champion.
The Marquez brothers’ future
Looking ahead to 2027, the future remains uncertain. Not only because of the rule changes: no one can guarantee the best bike, riders will have to decide almost on instinct. Will it be possible to share the same garage with his brother again? “In MotoGP, everyone has to decide what’s best for their career based on their personal interest.” And while acknowledging that having his brother in the garage is “the best thing that can happen,” he also knows it won’t be easy at all.
