Having a MotoGP bike in the garage is the biggest dream of many motorcycle fans and beyond, but it has never come true. Manufacturers usually keep their prototypes top secret, or scrap them, and very rarely gift one to their riders. But this time a model is making a lot of noise. It’s the 2020 Aprilia RS-GP of Aleix Espargaró.
Aleix parts ways with the Aprilia
The seller is none other than the rider from Granollers himself, who this year became a Honda test rider. He ended his career in 2024, choosing to put himself at the service of the Golden Wing, where he was reunited with engineer Romano Albesiano, formerly of Aprilia.
Aleix Espargaró has decided to part with one of the jewels of his private collection. This is not a display bike assembled from spare parts: it’s the real race bike that Aprilia gifted him in 2022 as thanks for his development work. Mark Bryan, one of the heads at Iconic Auctioneers, the auction house handling the sale, expressed surprise at the nature of the consignment. "He contacted me directly. I usually sell motorcycles to collectors; this is the first time I’m selling a motorcycle directly from the person who actually rode it," he told MCN.
RS-GP20 at 100%
The
RS-GP 20 is no ordinary motorcycle in the history of the Noale-based company. This model marked a radical shift in Aprilia’s technical philosophy, abandoning its previous configuration to adopt an all-new 90° V4 engine. This technical choice, along with revised aerodynamics and a twin-spar alloy frame, laid the groundwork for the MotoGP prototype we currently see on track.
The bike’s pristine condition is another of its strengths. It is exactly as it was when it finished its racing career, retaining the Akrapovič exhaust system, high-end custom-made Öhlins suspension, Brembo calipers, and carbon fiber brake discs. It even has the original full carbon fiber fairing with the aerodynamic wings from that season.
There’s one detail that makes this Aprilia RS-GP a unique piece: the electronics. Manufacturers usually remove sensitive software and hardware before selling any prototype. Bryan highlighted this anomaly: "It still has the Marelli electronics installed, which is unusual; normally they remove them." However, although the bike runs, Aprilia engineers would be required to start it.
See you in February
The lot to be auctioned during The Iconic Sale at Race Retro at Stoneleigh Park (United Kingdom), between February 20 and 22, 2026, includes much more than just the bike. Aleix Espargaró will also hand over the race gear used in that MotoGP season: leather suit, boots, gloves, and helmet, along with official factory documentation and delivery notes. The final price is estimated between 340,000 and 450,000 euros.
