Jorge Lorenzo is one step away from a MotoGP comeback. The five-time world champion will take on a key role with the Tech3 KTM team for the 2026 season. The goal is for him to become Maverick Vinales’ personal coach, a partnership that is already generating plenty of excitement.

A new pairing in the MotoGP paddock

The deal isn’t signed yet, but it has been in the air for months and both parties have given their blessing. Vinales will face his second season with the Austrian brand and has expressly asked the MotoGP Legend for help. Maverick knows well that on such a tight grid, talent alone is no longer enough and every little detail can make the difference. Having an experienced rider like Jorge Lorenzo at his side could give him that “surplus” capable of narrowing the gap to the very best.
Speaking to the official MotoGP.com channel, the Roses-born athlete admitted he has initiated contact with Jorge. "I need to find what’s best for me." Maverick’s aim is to absorb the precision that made number 99 a standout. "We know Jorge Lorenzo is a specialist in riding technique, and I always try to see if I can develop my skills," Vinales explained.

Negotiations confirmed

The work plan wouldn’t be limited to specific technical advice. The idea is for Lorenzo to contribute his vision to the overall management of the Grand Prix, an area in which the Majorcan’s experience is invaluable. "I’m talking with him to see if we can collaborate on the details, the technical aspects, and the weekend structure."
The five-time champion prefers to keep a low profile, but he has acknowledged the ongoing talks. "It’s a possibility. We need to finalize things... Having someone who has lived what you’re living, for so many years, I believe can give you a competitive advantage that will be important," the Majorcan concluded.
