All’Isola di Man l’edizione 2014 del Tourist Trophy entra nel vivo. Le prove di martedì 27 maggio hanno visto il primo “130” a firma di un pluri-vincitore del TT come Bruce Anstey, leader tra le Superbike in sella alla Honda CBR 1000RR Fireblade del team Padgett’s vestita dei colori Valvoline, con positive conferme nelle altre classi di James Hillier (Superstock), Lee Johnston (Supersport), Ivan Lintin (SuperTwins) e, tra i Sidecar, dell’equipaggio John Holden/Andy Winkle prima dell’interruzione con bandiera rossa per l’incidente a “Kerrowmoar” di Nev Jones (OK) e del suo passeggero Milan Vorel, ora all’Ospedale di Noble con una sospetta frattura di una gamba. Partendo dalla top class Superbike, come detto il grande protagonista della “serata” di martedì 27 maggio iniziata alle 18:20 locali risponde al nome di Bruce Anstey, con la Honda Fireblade di Padgett’s Motorcycles autore di un già impressionante 17’18” netti viaggiando a 130.860 mph di media, riferimento da rimarcare in previsione del TT Superbike di sabato prossimo e, soprattutto, del Senior TT di venerdì 6 giugno. Il “Kiwi” ha letteralmente fatto il vuoto lasciando a oltre 11″ di tempo sul giro il leggendario 20 volte vincitore John McGuinness (129.395 mph con la Fireblade SP iscritta ufficialmente da Honda Racing), Guy Martin (3° a 129.164 mph con la prima Suzuki GSX-R 1000 di Tyco Suzuki by TAS) e Michael Dunlop, quarto con la BMW S1000RR ufficiale del sodalizio BMW Motorrad/Hawk Racing recentemente condotta in trionfo alla North West 200. “Micky D” ha ferato i cronometri sul 17’13″669 a 129.032 mph di media tenendo testa nell’ordine a Michael Rutter (Bathams BMW), nel giorno del suo 28esimo compleanno Conor Cummins (6° con la seconda Honda ufficiale), il fratello William Dunlop (Tyco Suzuki by TAS) con Gary Johnson (Lincs Lifting Honda), Dan Kneen (Cookstown B.E. Suzuki) ed il dominatore del TT 2010 Ian Hutchinson (Milwaukee Yamaha) a completare la top-10 proprio davanti a Joshua Brookes, miglior “Newcomer” di tutti i tempi al Tourist Trophy reduce da un’impressionante performance alla North West 200. Si conferma velocissimo all’esordio l’ex protagonista del BSB Peter Hickman così come il nostro Stefano Bonetti: al ritorno dopo l’assenza forzata dello scorso anno, in sella alla propria Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10R Superstock ha fermato i cronometri sul 18’52.220 a 119.966 mph di media.
