Sarà l’edizione dei record? Le premesse, al termine della prima serata di prove delle classi “Solo” del Tourist Trophy 2012, lascierebbero presagire ad una risposta affermativa. John McGuinness, leggenda vivente del motociclismo e 17 volte vincitore al TT, al terzo giro del “Mountain Course” con la CBR 1000RR Fireblade 2012 di Honda TT Legends ha già fermato i cronometri sul 17’38.95, 128.267 mph di media, giusto 206.43 km/h. Una prestazione fenomenale per “McPint”, in trionfo con questi colori lo scorso anno tra Superbike e Senior TT (e due settimane or sono nella prima gara SBK alla North West 200), una vera e propria dichiarazione d’intenti lasciando a 16″ il suo più diretto inseguitore Cameron Donald attestatosi a 126.379 mph ai comandi della Fireblade del Wilson Craig Racing con Bruce Anstey (Padgett’s onda) più staccato a 125.306 mph. Un inizio.. da record per il TT 2012, caratterizzato anche dalla riconferma su ottimi livelli di Simon Andrews, miglior esordiente lo scorso anno su Ice Valley BMW, passato a Honda TT Legends, ma già in grado di concludere 4° alla NW200 Superbike e riproporsi su alti livelli nella prima serata di attività al TT a 124.772 seguito da James Hillier (Pr1mo Bournemouth Kawasaki), il vincitore di Gara 2 della Supersport 2011 Gary Johnson (Padgett’s Honda) e Guy Martin, senza problemi in azione con la Suzuki GSX-R 1000 nonostante il rovinoso volo alla NW200, unico portacolori di giornata del team Tyco Suzuki by TAS complice il forfait di Conor Cummins, “a riposo” per la mano infortunata alla grande classica del “Triangle”. Con Michael Dunlop (Honda CBR 1000RR di Hunts Motorcycles schierata da McAdoo), Ryan Farquhar (KMR Kawasaki) e Michael Rutter (MSS Kawasaki a completare la top-10), lunedì 28 maggio è stata anche l’occasione per rivedere al TT dopo 1 anno di assenza il dominatore dell’edizione 2010 Ian Hutchinson, undicesimo con la R1 ex-ufficiale di Swan Yamaha, con un miglior parziale a 123.025 mph di media. Sopra il muro delle 120 mph anche Stefano Bonetti con 2 soli giri all’attivo con la propria Kawasaki ZX-10R, 16esimo in graduatoria a 120.094 mph. Se (tra gli altri) John McGuinness, Guy Martin e Bruce Anstey tutto è rimandato a domani, hanno già percorso un paio di giri i fratelli Dunlop con William subito il più veloce in 18’25″15 (122.904 mph) davanti al proprio compagno di squadra in Honda Wilson Craig Racing Cameron Donald, seguito in terza posizione da Michael Dunlop il quale, a dispetto dei rumors trapelati (e confermati dai diretti interessati) nei giorni scorsi, ha girato regolarmente con la Suzuki GSX-R 600 del McAdoo Racing aspettando (chissà) di tornare alla stessa Yamaha YZF R6 di tante vittorie negli ultimi anni. Mickey-D per il momento prova con la “Gixxer” e chiude in terza posizione a precedere Dan Kneen, tra le note positive del TT 2011, e Ian Hutchinson, per il momento 5° a 118.857 mph con la R6 di Swan Yamaha. Stefano Bonetti, risolti i problemi alla frizione che lo avevano costretto alla resa in Gara 2 alla NW200, chiude invece 14esimo a 19’32″72 (115.823 mph, 186.4 km/h) con un solo giro del “Mountain” effettuato. Ex-protagonista del British Superbike, 4° alla NW200 Superbike e al Macau Grand Prix 2010, Andrews si propone tra i pretendenti a qualcosa di buono per il TT 2012 affiancato da James Hillier, reduce dal podio alla North West 200 Superstock con la Ninja ZX-10R del team Pr1mo Bournemouth Kawasaki, secondo in classifica a 124.407 mph rinunciando persino a correre domenica nel British Superbike per prepararsi al meglio al TT 2012. Hillier chiude 2° di classe Superstock la prima giornata di prove davanti a due ex-vincitori di categoria al TT: Cameron Donald (2008) con la Honda del Wilson Craig Racing, ma anche Michael Dunlop, in trionfo lo scorso anno, nuovamente su Kawasaki seppur preparata dal pluri-decorato McAdoo Racing. Seguono a ruota in classifica sopra le 122 mph Dan Kneen (Suzuki ex-TAS del Marks Bloom Racing) e Bruce Anstey (Padgett’s Honda), buon giro per Guy Martin a precedere William Dunlop, Michael Rutter (“discusso” vincitore tra le Superstock alla NW200) ed il portoghese presenza-fissa al TT Luis Carreira in 10esima posizione. Buon inizio anche per Stefano Bonetti, 12esimo in classifica a 120.094 mph con la stessa Kawasaki ZX-10R con la quale ha sfiorato il podio (anzi, ci è salito proprio!) nella prima di due gare della categoria alla North West 200. riconfermati. Il leggendario Dave Molyneux, al ritorno dopo un “anno sabbatico”, affiancato dal proprio secondino pluri-campione del mondo Patrick Farrance ha migliorato ulteriormente il 20’25.54 del sabato (110.831 mph) fermando i cronometri sul 20’14.31 a 111.856 mph (180.01 km/h), il tutto al primo giro del “Mountain” ai comandi del DMR motorizzato Kawasaki 600cc. Il 14 volte vincitore al TT Sidecar non è riuscito a ripetersi al secondo giro del “Mountain Course”, avvicinato così da Tim Reeves/Dan Sayle (LCR Honda 600, 110.748 mph) e Conrad Harrison/Mike Aylott (Shelbourne Honda 600, 110.044 mph), tutti sopra le 110 mph di media sul giro con i Sidecar di classe F2 da 600 centimetri cubici. Purtroppo la serata è stata caratterizzata da due brutti incidenti: Glyn Jones/Richard Murphy, 4° assoluti, sono incappati in un brutto volo a “Kepple Gate”, trasportati all’Ospedale di Noble per tutti gli accertamenti del caso. Medesima sventura per i fratelli Birchall, Ben e Tom, fuori gioco per un incidente a “Brandywell”. Niente di grave per due degli equipaggi attesi protagonisti nelle due gare in programma quest’anno tra sabato 2 e mercoledì 6 giugno.
