Tourist Trophy: al via l’edizione 2011 con le prime prove, McGuinness al top

Con le prove nella serata di lunedì 30 maggio è iniziato ufficialmente il Tourist Trophy 2011, edizione che celebra il centenario del “Mountain Circuit”. Con Ian Hutchinson grande assente (anche se prenderà parte alla parata di venerdì 10 giugno con la Yamaha R1 Superbike), Conor Cummins al rientro, c’è sempre John McGuinness al comando al termine di una prima sessione bagnata sul finale dalla pioggia con addirittura la gradine nel tratto del Mountain da Glen Helen a Ramsey. Quindici vittorie all’attivo al TT, McGuinness ha primeggiato tra le Superbike nel turno in programma dalle 18:20 alle 19:55 locali per le “Solo” (aperta a tutte le categorie) con la CBR 1000RR ufficiale di Honda TT Legends vestita nei colori che hanno reso celebre l’eterna RC30. Con il numero 1 ben in mostra sul cupolino, John McGuinness ha percorso soltanto 2 giri prima dell’avvento della pioggia, fermando i cronometri sul 18’25.75 a 122.838 mph di media (197.69 km/h) proprio davanti al suo compagno di squadra Keith Amor (18’27.56, 122.637 mph). I due piloti di Honda TT Legends hanno preceduto Gary Johnson con la Fireblade dell’East Coast Racing e Guy Martin, sceso in pista con la Suzuki GSX-R 1000 Superbike di Relentless by TAS, pur scottando un problema tecnico al rientro in pitlane. A seguire in questa classifica il due volte vincitore del TT Cameron Donald, quest’anno in Honda Wilson Craig Racing, Ryan Farquhar con il nostro Stefano Bonetti 11° assoluto con la nuova Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10R, davanti anche a Conor Cummins al rientro dopo il brutto incidente del Senior TT 2010. Reduce dal podio (3°) alle NW200 tra le Supersport, il “Kiwi” ha preceduto Gary Johnson (buon inizio) ed i fratelli William e Michael Dunlop, il primo con la Honda Wilson Craig Racing, il secondo con la Kawasaki (e per la Superbike disporrà della ZX-10R ufficiale del Mondiale di categoria), Buon inizio anche per Ryan Farquhar ed il leggendario Ian Lougher, subito sesto, con Conor Cummins ottavo e Stefano Bonetti a completare la top-10, obiettivo realistico per questa edizione del TT. Da segnalare che diversi piloti del British Superbike sono arrivati all’Isola di Man proprio all’ultimo momento dopo aver disputato, sotto il diluvio, le due gare di Thruxton. Tra questi anche Michael Rutter che darà l’assalto alla prima vittoria al TT con le Ducati 1098R Superbike e Superstock preparate da Riders Motorcycles. Nonostante questi impegni, Stefano Bonetti è riuscito a percorrere un giro del Mountain Course con la propria Honda CBR 600RR spiccando l’undicesimo crono in 20’30.63 (110.373 mph) preceduto da James Hillier arrivato direttamente dalla tappa di Thruxton del BSB.
