La giornata di martedì 14 maggio ha aperto ufficialmente l’edizione 2013 della North West 200, grande classica del Road Racing tradizionalmente in programma al “Triangle” tra Portrush, Portstewart e Coleraine. Nonostante la comparsa, a tratti, della pioggia, le attività si sono svolte regolarmente presentando i primi verdetti delle qualifiche ufficiali in previsione delle prime gare in programma tra giovedì (Gara 1 di Superstock, Supersport e SuperTwins) ed il tradizionale “Raceday” di sabato 18 maggio. Partendo dalla “top class”, la Superbike, Michael Dunlop con la Fireblade di Honda TT Legends ha dominato la scena viaggiando a 118.211 mph di media, ben 7″6 sul giro di vantaggio rispetto a Bruce Anstey con la CBR 1000RR vestita dei colori HM Plant del team Padgett’s Honda. Risulta al momento “non qualificato” avendo compiuto soltanto 1 giro Guy Martin, a 114.685 mph “virtualmente” terzo in graduatoria tenendo testa alle due grandi “sorprese” di giornata: Dean Harris (Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10R del team RC Express Racing in partnership con MSS) ed il “rookie” più atteso quale Joshua Brookes, già quinto assoluto con la TAS Suzuki. Oltre a Guy Martin, tutto rimandato alle qualifiche di giovedì mattina per attesi protagonisti come Martin Jessopp (BMW KO) e l’otto volte vincitore alla NW200 (nonchè “Man of the Meeting” delle ultime edizioni) Alastair Seeley. Buon rientro anche per Stuart Easton, già quinto assoluto con la R6 di Mar-Train Racing con la quale affronta abitualmente il British Supersport, partenza in salita invece per Alastair Seeley, fermo con il radiatore forato della propria Kawasaki Ninja ZX-6R. Non risulta al momento qualificato Gary Johnson con la MV Agusta F3 675 preparata dal team Valmoto, altrettanto per i nostri Davide Ansaldi (5 giri completati, il più veloce in 5’42″372 a 94.318 mph) e Dario Cecconi (nessuna tornata del “Triangle” all’attivo). Da segnalare che Guy Martin, Connor Cummins e William Dunlop non rientrano al momento qualificati con soltanto 1 giro utile a testa valido per rientrare in questa graduatoria. Quinto nella graduatoria dei tempi, ma per regolamento attualmente fuori classifica, Michael Rutter con la Kawasaki 650 preparata da McAdoo.
